After an exciting leadership election, the newly elected leader of the Conservative Party is Liz Truss and she will become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

I wish to congratulate Liz Truss on winning the Conservative Party leadership election.

Now is the time for the party to unite behind our new leader as she has to face down multiple crises, whether the war in Ukraine, the cost of living crisis across the UK or the outbreak of strikes that especially affects us here in West Ham. We stand behind her as she faces the challenge ahead.

I also wish to thank Rishi Sunak and all the other candidates for their strong campaigns that have allowed for a broad debate about the way forward which has been to the benefit of both the country and party.
