Rahima Khan, Conservative candidate for Mayor of Newham, calls for more Boris Bikes and better provision for cyclists. Rahima says:
Cycling is great exercise that's environmentally friendly and should be actively encouraged and supported. Cycling can even help revitalise local high streets and shopping parades by encouraging residents to shop locally.
If elected as Mayor of Newham I will seek the rapid expansion of the "Boris Bikes" cycle hire scheme across the borough, aiming to have cycle docking stations across the borough as soon as possible.
I will ensure that all children are enrolled on cycling proficiency and road safety courses and that cycling is fully integrated into planning and highways policy without gridlocking our roads or causing a stand-off between drivers and cyclists. My approach will be a carrot to cyclists, not a stick to drivers.
