Rahima Khan, Conservative candidate for Mayor of Newham, declares that all of Newham must benefit from the legacy of the Olympics. Rahima says:
The London 2012 games, hosted in Newham, promised a legacy that would benefit Newham residents. The opening up of the aquatics centre has provided an excellent resource for residents but we need to go further across the whole borough.
We need to develop grassroots sport and ensure our parks are clean and equipped to encourage children to play football and adults to exercise. Our community leisure centres need to be refurbished and supported rather than threatened with closure and we must promote social and competitive sport of all varieties.
If elected as Mayor of Newham I will build on the Olympic legacy and promote active participation in sport across our communities - all areas of the borough, all ages, all backgrounds and all ethnicities.
