Rahima Khan, Conservative candidate for Mayor of Newham, wants improvements made to Newham's buses. Rahima says:
Our borough has one of the lowest rates of car ownership in the whole country and the vast majority of journeys are made by public transport.
Newham has an extensive bus network but not all the main areas have direct connections. The night bus provision is more limited. Journeys are also restricted by poor enforcement of bus lanes, with blockages reducing reliability. Interchanges are often weak, especially around critical junctions. There is much scope to improve the system to deliver a more integrated experience that will open up journeys for all.
If elected Mayor I will lobby Transport for London to review the routes to ensure they are responsive to contemporary demand both day and night, ensure that stops are located to enhance interchange and work for smoother traffic flows.
